Anand Niketan Bharuch Campus

Ahmedabad, India

Inaugurated in 2018, the Bharuch campus of Anand Niketan School embodies a design language that is scientifically rooted yet architecturally contemporary. The masterplan places the main school building to the west, freeing the entire eastern edge for a vast playground that becomes a natural gathering and play arena for children.

Balancing Public & Private

The academic blocks are organized around open courts and shaded corridors that promote natural ventilation and daylight, reducing dependence on artificial lighting while maintaining thermal comfort in the warm climate of Bharuch.

Central Connection

The academic blocks are organized around a central open courtyard, a focal space that allows natural light and ventilation to flow freely while creating a communal hub for assemblies and events. Four distinct zones define the campus: the administrative block to the north, the activity and laboratory block to the south, a senior and pre-primary zone to the east with a staggered pre-primary structure for visual connectivity, and the circular classroom block to the west. The circular plan of these senior and junior classrooms breaks away from conventional boxy layouts, improving sightlines and enhancing teacher–student interaction.

Learning Landscapes

The campus seamlessly blends built and open environments, treating outdoor spaces as extensions of the classroom. Shaded walkways, landscaped pockets, and interactive zones encourage students to engage with nature, promoting both physical activity and cognitive development. These transitional areas support experiential learning, allowing education to unfold beyond conventional indoor settings.

Locally sourced materials—stone, brick, and terracotta—were chosen for their thermal performance and regional relevance. These materials not only ensure durability and climate responsiveness but also impart an earthy warmth to the overall aesthetic. Their tactile quality reinforces the idea of a grounded institution that respects tradition while embracing innovation.
