Mehsana Preschool

Ahmedabad, India

The proposed pre-school design for Anand Niketan, Mehsana is envisioned as a warm, welcoming and emotionally engaging environment that reflects childhood curiosity while maintaining architectural clarity. The building is wrapped in a soothing mustard-yellow palette, chosen for its psychological warmth — a colour that feels cheerful yet calm, helping young children feel safe and energetic at the same time.

Spatial Flow

Rather than sharp corners, the rounded geometry creates a sense of playfulness and movement, almost like a storybook setting. These arches become shaded transition zones between outdoor and indoor spaces, allowing children to pause, gather, and interact before entering classrooms. They also function climatically — cutting harsh sunlight while keeping the corridors naturally ventilated.

Access to Natural Light & Shade

The neutral grey tone grounds the composition and adds durability and easy maintenance, while maintaining safety through carefully designed child-friendly railing proportions. The balcony edges are designed as activity spill-out spaces where classrooms extend outdoors for reading, art, and informal learning.

Overall, the pre-school becomes a balance of playful form, climatic comfort, and emotional warmth — a place that feels less like a formal building and more like a cheerful learning home, encouraging curiosity, interaction, and joy from the moment a child enters the campus.
